Art Class

 

My name is Adam Cross and this is my 5th year at Compass Academy and my 13th year as an art teacher. I am very excited and proud to be a part of the Compass Academy team and I am looking forward to teaching our students about art, drawing, and photography. See below for a brief course description and needed supplies for each class.  

 

About High School Art I-IV. Grades 9-12

This art class is a general art class that will explore many different types of art and expose students to a variety of techniques they can use for a lifetime. We will do several projects as a class and also students will be be to choose projects based on what they like to do or what they want to learn more about. 

 

About High School Photography: Grades 10-12

Photography is an Art II and higher course and can only be taken after the student has taken a full year of Art I during a previous school year. The course will focus on core photography concepts as well as some advanced techniques. We will also cover Digital SLR (DSLR) camera functionality and basic digital image editing techniques. Students will create a digital portfolio of photographs taken around campus as well as on their own.

 

About High School Drawing: Grades 10-12

Drawing is an Art II and higher course and can only be taken after the student has taken a full year of Art I during a previous school year. This course will focus entirely on drawing. Students will learn the entire drawing process from blank page to finished artwork as well as several drawing techniques. This course will also include digital drawing using graphics tablets and drawing software.

 

 

- $20 supply fee - Please pay online on the Compass Academy website. From the website click "Academics" then click "High School Art Fee" and fill out the online form.

 

- A single piece of white poster board that we will use to make portfolios. If the student already has a portfolio at Compass from a previous year no additional poster board is necessary. I will provide all other materials for our class projects.

 

 

- $20 supply fee - Please pay online on the Compass Academy website. From the website click "Academics" then click "High School Art Fee" and fill out the online form.

 

If students have access to their own equipment, i.e. any digital SLR camera, tripod, cell phone they may bring that equipment to use in class. There will be cameras and tripods available for students to use during class or check out when needed.
