Welcome to High School Art I, II, III and Photography
My name is Adam Cross and this is my 2nd year at Compass Academy and my 10th year as an art teacher. I am very excited to be a part of the Compass Academy team and I am looking forward to teaching our students about art photography
Just a little bit about me:
I was born and raised in the hills of Northern West Virginia and later moved to a small Southwestern Pennsylvania town. I attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where I received my bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in drawing. I also attended UTPB as an education student and received my teaching certificate in the spring of 2010. My wife, Heather Cross, is the middle school art teacher here at Compass Academy and we have a beautiful 3 year old daughter.
About High School Art I, II, & III. Grades 9-11
I plan to explore many different types of art and expose students to a variety of techniques they can use for a lifetime. I want to encourage students to use my class as a means to express themselves artistically. We will do several projects as a class and also students will be be to choose projects based on what they like to do or what they want to learn more about.
About High School Photography: Grades 10-11
This is the first year Compass Academy is offering Photography as an elective and I am very excite about this course. The first thing you need to know is that Photography is an Art II course and can only be taken after the student has taken Art I during a previous school year. The course will focus on core photography concepts as well as some advanced techniques. We will also cover Digital SLR (DSLR) camera functionality and basic digital image editing techniques. Students will create a digital portfolio of photographs taken around campus as well as on their own.
Art I, II, III Supplies
The only supplies I am asking every art students to have are a sketchbook (9x12 sketchbooks are perfect) and a single piece of white poster board that we will use to make portfolios. If the student already has a sketchbook and/or portfolio at Compass from a previous year no additional sketchbook or poster board is necessary. I will provide all other materials for our class projects. I do want to make you aware, for the projects where the student decides what project to create, if there are any materials needed that I do not have in my classroom the student will be responsible for securing those materials.
No supplies will be required. However, students are encouraged to use their own equipment (any digital SLR camera, tripod, cell phone) if it is available. There will be cameras and tripods available for students to use/check out when needed at, hopefully, at least a 5:1 ratio, so we will have to share those.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. The best way to reach me is through email at email@example.com
My conference period is from 9:40 to 10:30 am daily.
