Welcome to Seventh Grade - English Language Arts
Welcome to a new school year.
It will be my privilege to teach, inspire, and encourage your student. You can choose the verb of your choice. One or all of them.
Most students do not enjoy reading, writing or thinking. We will be doing all three. Hopefully all three will be accomplished in one class period.
Class Supplies
Supplies specifically needed for English will be:
* 100 page wide ruled Composition book
* a 6 inch ruler ( A 12 inch will work, but a 6 inch ruler is easier to store in a pencil pouch.)
Your student will also need pencils. pens, colored pencils or crayons. I prefer liquid glue to glue sticks simply because they are better at keeping items glued into the composition book.
Expectations
Dress Code
Campus expectations will be followed.
Dress Code did change over the summer so please be aware of those changes.
If your student is not in compliance, he/she will be sent to Mr. Parker.
Lockers
Lockers can be assigned to second period students if they wish to store items in Room 213.
Phones, ear buds, smart watches, etc. . .
Phones and other technology will not be allowed during class.
This is the process if a student does not follow the expectation established by the campus.
1) The first time will be a simple statement.
Please put your electronic device away.
If the student chooses not to comply, Mr. Parker will be contacted.
2) After the first time, the cell phone will be taken up and given to Ms. Ritchie. The student will be asked to put the phone on my desk or to give it to me. I will label the phone and give as soon as I am able.
Campus consequences will be determined by Mr. Parker.
Classroom consequence will be the student's cell phone will be placed in "Phone Jail" for a specific number of days. That number will be determined by the teacher and a parent will be contacted.
Students can choose to leave their electronic device at the day spa.
Snacks and Beverages
Food, snacks, candy and fruit will not be eaten during class. The reason is simple. Mice. I do not want mice in the classroom.
However, they may have hard candy or gum, until I find that I am picking up their wrappers or gum is found on the floor.
If your student has a medical reason for eating during class, please communicate that with the nurse then she will provide a pass or email his/her teachers.
Water is the only beverage that will be allowed in class. If a bottle of water spills, it is easy to clean up. Anything that has sugar or flavoring will leave a sticky residue on the floor that will need to be mopped up.
