Student absences can be excused if it is listed in the student handbook, and written documentation is provided for the absence in a timely manner.
Parents may write a parent note to excuse a child’s absence due to personal illness for up to 2 consecutive days. The note must have the following information on it to receive an excused absence for the illness:
- child’s first and last name
- teacher’s name and grade
- date of absence
- reason for absence
- guardian signature
*A doctor’s note is required on the third consecutive absence.
Documentation needs to be provided for all days missed for the absences to be excused.
If a student is sent home by a nurse, the student is excused for the remainder of the day. A parent note or doctor note must be provided for any days missed following that day.
A student’s absence can be excused for the funeral of an immediate family member. Written documentation is required in the form of a pamphlet or obituary. The child’s name, grade, teacher, and date of absence must be written on the document.
All notes must be turned in within 5 days after the absence to the attendance clerk. Any late notes will not be accepted.
