My name is Tonya Smith and I teach First Grade at Compass Academy. I was born and raised in Odessa. I graduated from Odessa High in 1997. I graduated from UTPB and went through Region 18 for my teaching certificate. I am certified EC-4th grade and Special Education EC-12. I taught five years in Special Education at Lamar EEC and three years in a general education pre-K classroom. I am in my 14th year of education. I come from a family of educators. My father taught for 33 years and is still substituting almost everyday! My sister is also a teacher. My mother was a classroom aide for many years and now works in bookkeeping. It must be in our genes!
I am married to my best friend. We have one amazing son. I promise to take care of your child as if he/she were my own. I'm so excited to see your children grow and learn to their fullest potential. Teaching is the most rewarding profession out there. I cant see myself doing anything else. Thank you for sharing your child with me this year! It is going to be an amazing year!
