Welcome to Art
Middle School Art Class!
My name is Heather Cross and this is my 6th year at Compass Academy, but my 13th year being an Art teacher. I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful school and staff. I teach Middle School Art.
Just a little bit about me:
I was born and raised in the Ohio until I was 13, when I moved here to Odessa. I attended UTPB where I received my bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. I was also an education student and received my teaching certificate in the spring of 2011. My Husband, Adam Cross, is the High School art teacher here at Compass Academy. We have a beautiful 6 year old daughter and a 2 year old boy.
About Art:
I plan to explore many different types of art and expose students to a variety of techniques they can use for a lifetime. I want to encourage students to use my class as a means to express themselves artistically. We will do as many projects as the school year allows.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year with your teens. I have high expectations for my students, but understand that all students may not have art abilities. Effort and attitude go a long way. I am determined to teach all students how to be creative, positive, and believe in themselves as well as be RESPECTFUL in everything they do.
Art Supply List: A single sheet of Poster board that can be folded to make a portfolio as well as a box of #2 wooden pencils. We are asking that Families pay a $15 art supply fee that will cover the entire year for your student. This will allow for supplies to be purchased in order to do engaging art lessons. Each student will NOT have their own supplies, but this will allow to buy in bulk. Having an art fee will also help save parents money as you will not have to purchase supplies which can be costly, as well as not having to purchase a sketchbook. Sketchbooks will be provided for each student's personal use.
